Nashville has a new professional women's basketball team, and it already has a name: the Vibe
The Nashville Vibe, the city's franchise in the new Upshot League, was unveiled in September 2026 and will play at Vanderbilt Memorial Gymnasium starting in May 2027. Season memberships are already on sale.

Nashville's newest sports team has a name, a home court and a start date, and none of them involve a football or a hockey puck. The Nashville Vibe will play professional women's basketball at Vanderbilt Memorial Gymnasium, with its first season set for May 2027. The team was unveiled on Sep 15, 2026.
What the Vibe is
The Vibe is Nashville's franchise in the Upshot League, a new professional women's basketball league. The team's own site is already doing the work of a team that exists: season memberships with member benefits and discounts, group outings, official gear that, in the site's words, just dropped, and a stream of team news under the heading The UPdate. Game day is framed the way a fan would want it: home games, home energy, at Nashville's own Vanderbilt Memorial Gymnasium.
Who is behind it
Press coverage of the unveiling names Mark Walsh as a co-founder of the league and the managing partner and majority owner of the Nashville franchise.
Why Memorial Gym matters
Memorial Gymnasium is one of college basketball's distinctive rooms, with its raised court and benches on the baselines, and it gives the Vibe something expansion teams rarely get on day one: a home with a history that local fans already have feelings about. A May start also puts the Vibe in a friendly window on the Nashville sports calendar, after hockey and before football takes the fall over.
What happens between now and May
The team's calendar between the unveiling and the first game is the interesting part: a roster to build, a coach to introduce, and a fan base to assemble from memberships and merchandise. The Vibe has given itself a long runway, and its site suggests it intends to use it. Nashville has watched women's basketball fill arenas in other cities. Starting in May 2027, it gets to find out what that looks like at home.
The business underneath
It is easy to file a team under sports and move on, but a franchise is also a local business: an office on Music Row, staff to hire, sponsors to sign, and tickets and gear to sell in a city that already supports the Titans, the Predators, Nashville SC and the Sounds. The Vibe's bet is that there is room, and a distinct audience, for a women's basketball team with its own identity rather than an off-season tenant of someone else's arena. The membership sales running a full season ahead of the first game are the first measurable sign of whether that bet is right.
