The Sewist opens on White Bridge Pike with fabric, supplies and classes
The fabric store opened October 1 in The Nations, selling fabric and sewing supplies and running classes with a schedule posted on its site.
The Sewist is open. The fabric store opened October 1 at 280 White Bridge Pike in The Nations, and it is a straightforwardly useful kind of opening: bolts of fabric, sewing supplies, and people who can teach you what to do with them.
The owner is Don Moore, and his partner is Vickie Long, who managed Textile Fabrics for years. Classes are part of the offer from the start, with the schedule posted at thesewist.com, and the store is on Instagram and Facebook as @the.sewist.fabric. The shop also runs a large-format plotter, so sewists can print digital patterns in one piece instead of taping pages together. Word of the opening reached the neighborhood through Haus of Yarn's newsletter, from across the street, and City Cast Nashville covered it as well.
White Bridge Pike is better known for food and drink, which is part of what makes a fabric store land differently there. It is a shop you plan a Saturday around rather than a stop on a night out, and it gives the west side a specialty store it did not have. A video tour posted online walks the aisles, for anyone who wants a look before going.
